IEEE – Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Presents
Foundation of GIS for Civil Engineering: A Project-Based Workshop using QGIS
Objective of the Event
- To introduce students to the fundamental concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their relevance in civil engineering applications.
- To familiarize participants with the open-source software QGIS for spatial data analysis and visualization.
- To develop practical skills in handling spatial data, including data import, layer management, and map creation.
- To encourage hands-on, project-based learning through real-world problem-solving using GIS tools.
Outcome of the Event
- Students will gain a clear understanding of GIS concepts and their role in civil engineering practice.
- Students will be able to independently use QGIS for basic spatial data processing and map preparation.
- Students will develop the ability to analyze and interpret spatial data for engineering decision-making.
- Students will complete a mini/micro level project demonstrating the practical application of GIS in solving a civil engineering problem during the event.
